The Normandy impressionist Festival is taking place every four years. Wonderful exhibitions are taking place all across the region. A breeze of fresh air.

We Stayed during the festival at the villa of the painter Paul Alfred Colin (1838-1916) on the cliff at Yport - Normandy. A very inspiring setting where you can take you breakfast in the morning overlooking the village.

In 1867, the mayor of Yport Alfred Nunes, an art enthusiast, formed a group of painters, under the name of "Academie d'Yport". The group would include painters like Colin, Diéterle, Daubigny, Faourié and Laurens. They would meet up during summers in the small coastal city to paint landscapes and seascapes from Normandy.

Over the years, the group of artists will build villas close to each other in the village so that the friends could pass their summer together. Next time you stroll through the small charming streets of Yport to admire the beautiful architecture of its villas, look for large north facing window openings (such as this one from the Villa of Paul Colin) . It will indicate an artist's workshop and tell you are looking at a villa from one of the painter of the "Academie d'Yport"!
